Product Description
The Hanna Instruments FC202D is a food-specific pH electrode for the HI 99161 portable pH meter with an open junction, Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC), nontoxic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) body, conical tip, internal amplifier, viscolene electrolyte, Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) connector, and 1m (3.3') coaxial cable. A pH electrode is commonly attached to a pH meter to measure the pH of a substance such as water, food, beer, or wine in lab, industrial, and food applications. The open junction of this electrode prevents clogging with milk, yogurt, dairy products, meat, and semisolid foods. The PVDF body is nontoxic for compatibility with food. The 10 x 6mm (H x W) conical tip is for piercing semisolids and food. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right.) An internal amplifier provides a strong low impedance signal from the electrode to the HI 99161 portable pH meter. The viscolene electrolyte provides a fast response. A DIN connector provides tight cable connections. The electrode comes with a 1m (3.3') coaxial cable.

An electrode, also called a sensor or probe, is an instrument used with a meter to test and measure parameters of a substance. All electrodes are probes or sensors, but not all probes are electrodes or sensors. Probes, such as temperature probes, are used to penetrate a material for measurement. Common electrode types are pH, total dissolved solid (TDS), and ion selective electrode (ISE). Electrodes can be half-cell or full-cell (also called combination) types. They can be refillable or non-refillable. Housing material is typically glass or epoxy, and sensors are commonly made with stainless steel or a glass bulb. pH electrodes, which measure the pH of a substance, often have a glass bulb. The bulb senses hydrogen ions, and generates a millivoltage that is picked up by the filling solution and transferred to a wire that connects to the pH meter. Ion selective electrodes (ISEs) respond selectively to ions in the presence of other ions. Electrodes are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists in a wide variety of industries, such as aquaculture, agriculture, chemistry, food and beverage, wine-making and water-testing, and for scientific applications. An electrode can be used with a datalogger to assist in temperature measurement.
Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.

Hanna Instruments FC202D pH Smart Electrode for Semi Solid Foods, DIN Connector, 0 - 12 pH Review
Very convenient to use and easy to clean. The expected useful life is around 1 year or so. The last one we replaced lasted perhaps less than that in a relatively gentle lab environment hence the 4 star rating, otherwise it would have been a 5 for sure.We use it with hanna HI 99161 which has an ATC feature and calibrates easily. Overall great probe for semi solids and even emulsions.
