Riedel's varietal specific wine glass concept has changed the world of wine drinking around the globe, by highlighting the effect that size and shape have on the aroma and flavor perception of the wine. This special new Black Tie series incorporates the Sommeliers line's classic shapes into gorgeous mouth-blown stemware, all accented in black. This Riedel Black Tie Bordeaux Grand Cru glass features the same classic shape of its Sommelier series counterpart, perfectly capturing the nuances of the fine wine it was designed for. The bowl rests on a beautiful black stem, accented by a clear base, creating an elegant dressed up appeal, and is packed in a handsome single gift tube.

The Riedel Black Tie Sommeliers Series of glasses consists of a lineup of thier finest glasses in an elegant package.

The Bordeaux Grand Cru in black tie trim is an exquisite tool for consuming your finest wines. Remove it from the box and you will find a glass that stands nearly a foot high on a dramatic black glass stem. The foot is extra wide and the bowl is made of exceptionally thin glass. The total package is a feather weight design with a nicely shaped bowl for cabernet based wines.

Pour a fine wine in to this work of art and you have a blissful experience. Like wearing a cashmere sweater, driving an italian sports car or wearing a handmade swiss watch, there is just something extra special and luxurious about drinking from these glasses.

Compare the same wine side by side in the Grand Cru Bordeaux and a Vinum Cabernet glass and you will see the difference. The larger glass provides surface area for the wine to aerate, open and unwind. The nose is captured nicely in the large bowl and you will notice detail you do not usually see in your wines.

(note: older bordeaux should be consumed from the mature bordeaux glass as the wine could gain too much air in this glass)

All of this said there are a few drawbacks. First, you must be extremely careful when cleaning these glasses. The paper thin construction of the bowl leaves them quite suceptible to damage. The second drawback is that polishing these glasses with a microfiber towel takes a long time. Because you have to be careful, getting every blemish off of the glass is difficult.

That said, this is the greatest glass I have used, and when I am reaching for a top notch wine from my cellar this is what I would prefer to drink it from.
