My father bought this for me as a kid and 20 years later it's still going strong despite pack and unpack, move after move (military), and some abuse falling off tables/trees. The only maintenance ever required has been to tweak the angle of a bell now and then- so the soldier strikes it for the best ring. The bells sound beautiful and unlike later models it plays 100% by bell strike- no electronic sound or other means of making music, just the bells. This is the item that I look most forward to unpacking every year. If it ever broke or disappeared I'd pay hundreds to replace it with another in good shape. If you can find one for a reasonable price under 3 digits I highly recommend it.
